*Note: This article has been updated to reflect the recently delayed implementation date.*

On June 28 of 2021, Railinc’s Early Warning System will be replaced by Equipment Advisory System.

There are several changes that will accompany this transition, including changes in severity levels, new activity codes and more.

For the detailed changes, please refer to the Early Warning Rewrite Webinar, available on Railinc.com.

As a car owner or railroad, understanding the upcoming changes will enable you to properly handle equipment during and after the transition to the Equipment Advisory System in April. Equipment Advisory system will continue to be a resource for identifying and handling equipment with health concerns.

Our repair management system, CarLogix, integrates Early Warnings and other health alerts in our Equipment Health Report. In 2021, we will replace Early Warning data within CarLogix with Equipment Advisory notifications. As we currently provide access to the Early Warning letters within our system, we will continue to provide a link to view the full details of the Equipment Advisory notifications.

Our CarLogix team always keeps up to date with industry changes. As AAR rules and other requirements change, our team updates CarLogix with automated edits and validations that guide you through the new rules.
